5. Cookie Policy

What is a cookie?

Cookies are text files which contain information about your internet usage that is held in your browser or on your computer's hard drive. There are different types of cookie: some are essential for the site to operate properly, whereas others are aimed at enhancing and personalising your user experience.

Why do we use cookies?

There are several reasons why we and most other websites use cookies. They allow us to distinguish you from other users of our websites and this helps us to improve our websites for your benefit. Cookies can help us to understand how consumers are interacting with our websites, which helps us to improve our sites and to deliver a better service to you.

By continuing to use our websites, you are agreeing to our use of cookies.

What types of cookies do we use?

1. Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential to enable you to move around the website and use its features. Without these cookies, we cannot provide some of the basic functionalities of our websites.

2. Performance Cookies

These cookies generally collect information about how visitors use our websites, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and the pages that they don't. This helps us to understand and improve the sites so it is easy to use and includes helpful content. They also allow us to fix bugs or glitches on the websites. These cookies don’t collect information that identifies visitors, so we can’t identify you individually.

3. Functionality Cookies

These cookies allow our websites to remember the choices you make as you browse the sites. They provide more enhanced and personal features. The information collected is anonymised and they cannot track your browsing activity on other sites once you leave our sites.

4. Advertising or Targeting Cookies

These cookies are used to deliver adverts which are more relevant to you, based upon the way you have used the websites in the recent past. They also enable us to put limits on the number of times you might see an advert – to hopefully stop them becoming annoying and repetitive. These cookies remember that you have visited the sites, track what products you may have looked at, and this information may be shared with our advertising partners.

If you see an advert from us once you have left our sites and are browsing other sites on the internet that magically seems to understand what you previously showed an interest in then this is enabled by targeting cookies. This enables advertising that is clearly more relevant to you as an individual, so we feel it offers a valuable service, which is why we use targeting cookies.

We work with Sub2 Technologies Limited ("Sub2") in order to maximise website user engagement. Sub2 helps us to use cookies, which are stored on your device when you visit our website. Data from these cookies is used to identify when you take certain actions on a website. This information is then used for the purposes of providing you with marketing which is more relevant to you and your interests. For further details on the cookies that we use with Sub2's assistance, please click here.

We also work with Sub2 Technologies Limited ("Sub2") in relation to digital display advertising for our website. Sub2 works with third party advertising networks to let them know when to use cookies via our website. When cookies are used and stored on your device, data from these cookies is processed by Sub2 and by their third party advertising partners to serve you with advertising that is relevant to you, based on your previous browsing habits. The data is also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement as well as to help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign. For further details about Sub2 and the third party advertising cookies that Sub2 facilitates via our website, please click here.

How to turn off cookies

You can turn cookies off at any time by going into your browser settings. However, this may have a detrimental effect on your user experience. If you are happy to continue letting us use cookies in the ways set out in this policy, to help us guide our work, then you need not do anything. If you have any concerns, or would like to know more about the cookies we use, please contact: feedback@petandyou.co.uk and put ‘cookies’ in the subject line.

7. International Transfers

Personal information you provide to us is stored on our secure systems within the UK. Your information may be transferred to one of our reputable service providers who may store and process this information outside the European Economic Area (EEA). We can assure you that we take all reasonable steps to ensure your data is handled securely and we use specific contracts approved by the European Commission which give personal data the same protection it has in Europe.

Please Contact Us if you want further information on the specific mechanism used by us when transferring your personal data out of the EEA.

petandyou.co.uk takes the upmost care to ensure the personal data you provide to us is kept securely. Where we engage service providers to work on our behalf, we will ensure that they only have access to the specific data they need to undertake the service required and process your personal data on our instructions.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

9. Data Retention

We will only keep your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

We will delete the personal data you may have provided to us if you have not actively engaged with us for seven years or if you otherwise ask us to do so. Please note that we may need to retain a minimal amount of personal data to effect requests to opt-out of our marketing communications.

When you register on the petandyou.co.uk website and choose to receive communications, offers and information from our Partners, we will pass your personal data on to those named Partners and, where applicable, to their brand, marketing or other third-party service providers. No Fee Usually Required

You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances.

What We May Need From You

We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response.

YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS

You have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data (commonly known as a “data subject access request”). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it.

  • Request correction of the personal data that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected, though we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide to us.

  • Request erasure of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your personal data where you have successfully exercised your right to object to processing (see below), where we may have processed your information unlawfully or where we are required to erase your personal data to comply with local law. Note, however, that we may not always be able to comply with your request of erasure for specific legal reasons which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.

  • Object to processing of your personal data where we are relying on a legitimate interest (or those of a third party) and there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground as you feel it impacts on your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have the right to object where we are processing your personal data for direct marketing purposes. In some cases, we may demonstrate that we have compelling legitimate grounds to process your information which override your rights and freedoms.

  • Request restriction of processing of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to suspend the processing of your personal data in the following scenarios: (a) if you want us to establish the data’s accuracy; (b) where our use of the data is unlawful but you do not want us to erase it; (c) where you need us to hold the data even if we no longer require it as you need it to establish, exercise or defend legal claims; or (d) you have objected to our use of your data but we need to verify whether we have overriding legitimate grounds to use it.

  • Request the transfer of your personal data to you or to a third party. We will provide to you, or a third party you have chosen, your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. Note that this right only applies to automated information which you initially provided consent for us to use or where we used the information to perform a contract with you.

  • Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent to process your personal data. However, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you. We will advise you if this is the case at the time you withdraw your consent.
